CIEL pursues its mission through legal research and advocacy, education, and training, focusing on connecting global challenges to the experiences of communities on the ground.

CIEL seeks to protect and defend the environment and human rights against adverse impacts of development, collaborating to improve safeguard policies, increasing access to information through the Early Warning System, and supporting community-driven advocacy and complaints at the accountability mechanisms of multilateral banks.
