Fiji Women’s Rights Movement (FWRM)

FWRMThe Fiji Women’s Rights Movement (FWRM) was created in 1986 by 56 women from various backgrounds and took up the challenge of correcting the imbalances in women’s social and economic and political status – they saw an opportunity to “balance the scales.” The values of feminism, human rights, the rule of law, multiculturalism, and good governance drove them. The same principles still guide FWRM as an organization and a movement today. Over a quarter of a century later, the FWRM can be described as a leading feminist human rights organization that links local concerns to global debates.
