Global Witness Report Chronicles Dangers for Human Rights Defenders in Honduras

Feb 2, 2017

A new report released by Global Witness identifies Honduras as “the deadliest country in the world for environmental activism.” The report calls attention to international financial institution funding for projects that result in human rights violations for local communities and violence against activists. It calls on these funders, including the International Finance Corporation, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, to review their current projects in Honduras, to intervene when human rights defenders are threatened, and to “speak out against attacks on defenders and ensure that robust policies are developed and implemented regarding how they will guarantee constructive dialogue with local communities.” Read the full report here.
