Groups Urge the AIIB to Hold a Real Consultation on its Draft Policies

Oct 23, 2015

Members and allies of the Coalition for Human Rights in Development sent a letter today to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank criticizing the institution’s consultation process for its new social and environmental framework. The letter cites that the English-only, online consultation privileges English-speaking business interests at the expense of the communities which will be affected by AIIB investments and whom the social and environmental framework should be designed to protect. The groups urged the bank to redesign the consultation process in demonstration of an honest commitment to transparent, participative, and rights-respecting development.
