AIPNEE

AIPNEE’s mission is to strengthen the promotion and protection of Indigenous Peoples’ rights, in particular to their lands, territories, and resources, and to self-determination, in the context of extractive industries and energy.

In 2023-2024, AIPNEE co-lead the engagement of Indigenous Peoples’ organizations and representatives in the Safeguards Policy review of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through an Indigenous Peoples Advisory Group and the review of the ADB’s Accountability Mechanism Policy. Building on the work of their affiliate member organizations in various countries, they have also made joint submissions to the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights on Development Finance Institutions, including Japanese institutions. Moreover, AIPNEE’s affiliate member organizations at the local and national levels work with and support communities affected by projects supported by multilateral development banks and other international financers, including to assist in submitting complaints to the accountability mechanisms of the banks.
