The Centre for Environmental Justice (CEJ) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that aims to protect the environment and ensure equal environmental rights for all people. CEJ promotes ecological sustainability by providing support for ecologically sound community activities. CEJ works to protect and conserve Sri Lanka’s natural resources and preserve ancient wisdom that enabled previous generations to live harmoniously with nature. The organization also works to establish better environmental governance for a sustainable future, environmental justice, and equity.
Mission
The Center for Environmental Justice (CEJ) works to protect equal environmental rights and empower communities to enhance environmental sustainability, mediate environmental conflict and advocate for environmental laws enforcement and policy measures. As a litigation organization, CEJ supports communities through public interest litigation.
Our work in development finance
The Center for Environmental Justice has been active in the fields of environmental justice and international financial institutions (IFI) monitoring since 2004. CEJ monitors IFI-financed projects and engages these banks and their accountability mechanisms on cases that violate communities’ environmental and human rights.
