To put communities, young people and women at the centre of actions and initiatives for the sustainable management of natural resources for equitable, fair and sustainable community development.
YPD supports communities affected by the Lobé industrial iron mining project in southern Cameroon. YPD has mapped the project's investment chain, interviewed local communities to gather their fears and complaints, documented cases of reprisals, documented negative impacts, raised awareness of current mining regulations and is planning to produce a handbook summarising the relevant regulations, lead meetings and activities to ensure the participation and commitment of stakeholders in the development process, and initiate an advocacy process with a letter to the local community to encourage the players involved to take more responsibility for reducing the impact of mining and respecting the rights of local residents.
