La aprobación de los primeros proyectos a financiar por el Nuevo Banco de Desarrollo (NBD) de los BRICS ha generado intriga y preocupación entre organizaciones de la sociedad civil. Si bien se aduce que el financiamiento inicial del Banco está dirigido a «proyectos verdes», el problema, según las OSC, es que como aún carece de un marco de políticas sociales y ambientales adecuado, no puede proteger contra los impactos adversos de sus proyectos (sin importar cuán verde diga ser).
