Asamblea de Pueblos Catamarqueños en Resistencia y Autodeterminación (Asamblea Pucarà)

In Argentina, Asamblea PUCARA has been protecting the rights of local community and the environment, harmed by lithium mining operations. Its strategies include media campaigns, international advocacy, mobilization at the local level, and legal actions. Thanks to their work, in March 2024 an Argentine court temporarily suspended the issuance of new lithium mining permits in the area of the Salar del Hombre Muerto, recognizing the catastrophic impacts on the local water sources, the environment, and the livelihoods of local communities.
