The Indigenous council Consejo Indígena Maya Ch’orti’ de Olopa has been resisting against extractivist projects in their territory, in particular against the operations of Minerales Sierra Pacìfico (subsidiary of the Canadian Volcanic Gold Mines). They have been organizing workshops to empower local communities, documented violations, and challenged the mine through legal actions.
