Manushya Foundation

Manushya Foundation was founded in 2017, with the vision to build a movement of Equal Human Beings. Manushya is an intersectional feminist human rights organization reinforcing the power of humans (in particular women, human rights defenders, indigenous peoples, forest-dependent communities, environmental defenders, LGBTI groups, and Youth) to be at the heart of decision-making processes that concern them and to speak truth to power at the forefront of their fight for human rights, equality, social justice and peace. Through coalition building, capacity building, community-led research, advocacy and campaigning, and sub-granting, local communities become Agents of Change fighting for their rights and providing solutions to improve their lives and livelihoods, pushing back on authoritarian governments and harmful corporations. Manushya defends local communities and seeks justice with them before the United Nations, and works at the intersection of women’s rights and gender equality, democracy and digital rights, corporate accountability and climate justice, protection and access to justice across Asia.

Our work in development finance

Manushya Foundation has been the leading force in Thailand calling for accountability of corporations negatively impacting the rights of local communities and their environment. Through coalition-building and the establishment of the intersectional Thai Business & Human Rights Network, to the work on Thailand’s first National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights, to the engagement in the negotiations for the international legally binding treaty on Business & Human Rights, to amplifying the voices of local communities at the United Nations Human Rights Mechanisms such as the Universal Periodic Review, and the CERD review specific to racial discrimination, Manushya has pushed for solutions that would bring justice to local communities and put People and the Planet over profit. With a clear vision of the looming climate crisis and corporations as its main culprits, Manushya Foundation has been leading the way for a Just, Inclusive, Green, and Feminist Transition, supporting local and indigenous communities in their fight against false climate solutions, criminalization, and murder of environmental activists, gold mining activities threatening health and having serious negative environmental impacts and false renewable energy projects that hurt their rights without tackling climate change. The following provides an explanation of our work on two of the cases related to corporate accountability and climate justice, which are being handled by Manushya.
