The Oil Refinery Residents Association (ORRA) is a grassroots organization representing individuals and communities affected by oil and gas projects in Hoima, Uganda. These projects, led by TotalEnergies and the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) in collaboration with the government of Uganda, have resulted in the displacement of thousands of people from their agricultural lands. In addition, the ongoing oil activities is already having negative impacts on local ecosystems, including Lake Albert, Murchison Falls National Park, and other critical biodiversity areas like Bugoma forest, Kabwoya and Bugungu Wildlife conservation areas.
Since 2012, ORRA has been at the forefront of championing the rights of oil project-affected persons, particularly focusing on amplifying local voices on climate action, human rights and environmental protection.
