Coalition Members Gathering in 2017

Imagine a transformative space where +50 community activists, Indigenous leaders and civil society groups from the Global South come together, not as beneficiaries of development, but as architects of their own futures.   

Now imagine a space where the groups from the Global South can strategize together on how to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges – from the just energy transition to shrinking civic space, colonial legacies, and unjust economic systems – through a bottom-up and feminist approach.

Imagine a space where they can celebrate their collective achievements, share lessons learned, and build solidarity.

The Coalition for Human Rights in Development is making this space a reality, by inviting members and close allies to join the Members Gathering in Kenya in July. If you are a member or close ally and if you have not received the invitation, please let us know. 

The gathering will be a celebration of 10 years of collective work and a chance to co-design the strategy for the next five years. We’re deliberately choosing to host this gathering in Africa, a continent, abundant in people and resources but too often exploited, constructed as poor and in need of a development imagined elsewhere. By centering this space in the Global South, we are asserting that regions and communities marginalized from decision-making are central to re-imagining how their own development should look like.

In a world engulfed in the climate crisis, conflicts and systemic injustices, we need to join forces and reclaim our collective power. 

To ensure the participation of grassroots communities, Indigenous Peoples and local groups, we need to raise USD 140,000. Every donation supports those whose voices and experiences can shape solutions and contribute to the transformation of development.
