Newsletter – January 2024

Jan 9, 2024

Welcome to the new edition of our quarterly newsletter, “The power of collective struggles”.

To kick off the new year, we open this newsletter with a blog where we share a snapshot of what we learned in 2023, what we achieved, and our hopes and dreams for the work ahead. The experiences and stories shared by communities across the world have shown us how systemic changes are needed now, more than ever. The top-down, mainstream economic growth model needs to be flipped on its head to achieve human rights-based and community-led development.

In 2023, we have been grateful to collaborate with over 100 communities and human rights defenders who are raising their powerful voices, defending their environmental and human rights, and challenging the broader system of development finance. In the coming months, we look forward to continuing learning from them and working collectively under their guidance, to build a just and equitable world where we can all live with dignity.

Check out this newsletter to read the blog and exciting updates from our members and partners, their inspiring stories, and useful resources:

  • Chile: The true cost of green hydrogen
  • Latin America: Civil society groups meet with the IDB President
  • Some good news: Panama says no to mining
  • …and some bad ones: in Asia, the ADB keeps promoting “transition mining” and hydro projects
  • Our allies’ statements in solidarity with Gaza
  • The EU’s landmark agreement to stop corporate abuse
  • New reports and publications by our members and allies, reading tips, and a full page packed with data and graphics.
  • A calendar with upcoming events and key dates.
